Qualifications for Home Ownership
Need for Adequate Housing — Your family must be living in substandard or inadequate housing that does not meet the needs of your family. We will also consider families who are currently living in subsidized housing, families who are currently living with other families or who are homeless, and families whose current housing expenses exceed 30% of their income.

Ability to Pay — You must be able to afford monthly mortgage payments for a Habitat home including principle, taxes, and insurance. You must also meet our minimum income guidelines and not exceed our maximum income guidelines depending on your family size. Please see the chart below.

Willingness to Partner — To be considered for a Habitat home you and your family must be willing to complete 500 “sweat equity” hours. 100 of these volunteer hours must be worked on home construction. Your help in building your home and the homes of others is called “sweat equity” and may include clearing the lot, painting, helping with construction, working in the Habitat office or other approved activities. You also will be required to attend classes in personal finances, home ownership, and home maintenance. Along with this, you may be asked to participate in TriState Habitat for Humanity fund raising events. In addition, you must be willing to live where TriState Habitat for Humanity has available land.

TriState Habitat for Humanity’s service area includes Butler, Warren, and Clermont Counties in Ohio; Boone, Kenton, and Campbell Counties in Kentucky; and Dearborn and Ohio Counties in Indiana.
